Sex & Porn Addiction Counseling

At Total Health Guidance, we recognize that sexual issues are complex and deeply personal. Our therapists take an integrated approach that combines a sex-positive perspective with an understanding of sexual addiction and compulsive sexual behaviors. We provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore concerns, understand your patterns, and create a healthy sexual life.

The Sex-Positive Approach

The sex-positive approach removes shame and judgment around sexuality whether that involves your thoughts, desires, activities, or identity. We believe that as long as sexual activity is mutual, consensual, honest and safe, it can be part of a healthy life.

Sex-positive counseling helps you:

  • Develop a healthy, empowered sexual self-image
  • Reduce shame and self-criticism
  • Build intimacy that aligns with your values

The Sexual Addiction Perspective

Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSATs) define sexual addiction as any compulsive sexual behavior that negatively impacts your life, relationships, or health. Like other addictions, sexual addiction is often progressive and may cause:

  • Loss of control over sexual behavior
  • Preoccupation with sexual activity or pornography
  • Severe consequences (relationship loss, legal issues, STDs, unplanned pregnancies)
  • Escalating shame and low self-esteem
  • Using sexual thoughts or activities to escape emotional pain

The Total Health Integrated Model

Our approach blends acceptance with accountability. We don’t shame or label, but we do help you identify when sexual behaviors are harming your life.

We use 5 guiding principles to determine if sexual activity is healthy:

  • 1.Is it mutual and consensual? (Adult to adult, not under the influence)
  • 2.Is it safe? (No high-risk situations)
  • 3.Is it honest? (No lying to your partner or about important details)
  • 4.Is it non-exploitive? (No coercion, revenge porn, or sex for manipulation)
  • 5.Is it consistent with your core values?

If your behaviors consistently break these principles, you may be struggling with sexual compulsion or sexual incongruence, and counseling can help you find balance.
